Call for Special Issue 2026

2025-10-01

We are pleased to announce the opening of the call for papers for the Special Issue 2026. Proposals must be submitted before December 19, 2025, to the following email address: r.papers.sociologia@uab.cat.

The proposal should include the following information:

  1. Title of the Special Issue
  2. Presentation of the proposal, including a brief justification of its connection with the sociology field and the editorial line of Papers.
  3. Name, affiliation and 5 outstanding publications of the Special Issue coordination team.
  4. Abstracts of the articles included in the proposal, as well as names, affiliations and outstanding publications of the authors.

The Special Issues of Papers contain between 6 and 8 articles, that can be written in Catalan, Spanish or English. However, Papers aims to encourage publication in English, so that proposals with a minimum of 2 articles in English (ideally, the introduction of the coordinators and one of the articles) will be especially valued. Although it is not one of the criteria for the evaluation of proposals or a condition for their acceptance, the availability of co-financing for the Special Issue may be indicated.

The Peer Review Process:

The proposals received will be evaluated by the Editorial Board according to the following criteria:

  1. Quality of the articles included and coherence of the proposal
  2. Contribution of the proposal to the advancement of knowledge and debates in the thematic area in which the Special Issue is framed. It will also be considered whether the proposal contributes to broadening the themes or approaches of the journal, especially with respect to the following areas:
    • Causes, effects, and impacts of poverty
    • Social and economic challenges of the ecological transition and climate change
    • Health inequalities
    • Rural sociology and sociodemographic challenges

  3. Connection of the proposal with the sociology and editorial line of the journal.
  4. Record of publications of the coordinators, as well as the authorship of the articles
  5. Participation of a minimum of 40% of women in the authorship of the articles
  6. Diversity in the institutional affiliation of the authors

If the proposal is accepted, all articles, except the introduction, will go through the usual process of peer review. In addition, they must conform to the journal's publication guidelines.

The Papers’ editorial board reserves the right to open the Special Issue to new articles if any of the proposed articles are rejected or the established deadlines are not met.
