Valubas, quintos, abuelos and bisas. Representation of military service discipline
Abstract
Sociology may enter the debate on compulsory Military Service by means of an analysis of the pragmatic contradictions raised by the implementation of constitutional principles. A monography on a military settlement in the Pyrenees during 1990 is presented in this article. The following hpothesis is tested: enclosure imposed by the barracks, which are eventually a total institution, the soldier's masculin gender construction, his internalizarion of discipline, and peer groups making, all of them determine if the performance of military discipline will be ritual or dramatic.
