Structural conditionnings in men's and women's social networks
Abstract
Men's and women's personal network often differ in composicion and range. Women's networks are more focused on family, and men's on nonkin, especially coworkers. Using data from a 1989 social survey undertaken by Sociology Dept. (Malaga University), it find that these gender differences arise from dissimilar social structural locadons of genders. Most differences labour positions. When opportunities between gender are very much alike then women show larger number and diversity of nonkin ties in their personal networks than men. Keywords
