The representation of immigrant women in the national press
Abstract
The aim of this investigation is to explore the social representations and images that the Spanish press transmits about immigrant women. Inquiring the news appeared in 2004 in the most important national newspapers (El País, El Mundo and ABC) and using a qualitative analysis, this research brings to light the most frequent clichés and social situations of these women in the press, their relations with other social groups, their main roles and their prominence in news. The results show the invisibility of immigrant women and their marginal and vulnerable representation in the press. Keywords
