El nexo entre urbanización y turismo. Análisis de la opinión pública

Abstract

This paper contributes to knowledge of the context of opinion in which the process of residential tourism modernisation takes place. Results are based on survey of 430 respondents living in three towns located in the south of the Alicante province, where the modernisation process related to an increasing offer of second homes —typical of Spanish Mediterranean regions— has been especially intense. Data analysis confirms the existence of a general context of legitimation, in contrast with the critical diagnoses of most of the researchers who have studied this process. This seems to point to a public opinion context in which the principles that guarantee the system’s balance are not questioned. Instead, discussions focus on debating to what extent the known formulae should be applied.
