Abstract

The role of the sociologist qua social scientist is to develop an objective knowledge of reality.That entails emancipatory work in order to deny the discourse of idola. But sociologistscan go further, advising political decision-making centres with a reality principle and a technical criticism of values. However, sociologists cannot assume the responsibility of making technocratic, political decisions in the name of the authority of science.

Miguel Beltrán Villalva, Departamento de Sociología, Facultad de Económicas. Universidad Autónoma de Madrid

Catedrático jubilado de Sociología, es Profesor Emérito de la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, en la que continúa como profesor ad honorem. Premio extraordinario tanto en la Licenciatura como en el Doctorado, es Master of Arts en Sociología por Yale University. Ha impartido cursos y dado conferencias en distintas Universidades europeas y latinoamericanas, y su último libro publicado es Burguesía y liberalismo en la España del siglo XIX : Sociología de una dominación de clase (2010).
