Media and Culture, One Project: Barcelona 92
Abstract
In this article the author consideres that the communication dimension of the Olympic Games is determined by their global caracter and huge attention. The Olympic Games offer the media a great opportunity to experiment with and test its potential to transfonn. The international olympic movement creates cultural and social values. Because of this Barcelona, as an olimpic city, cannot ignore the large international dimensions of the present Olympic Games, not only in the sense of ofering the international community the cultural proposition which permits the development of the strong «positive» values of the olympic spirit and sport in general, but also in the aspect of representing the local society. The author also analyses the problems with which the media coverage of the olympics and the olympic ideals. Highlight the important position of television, not only because of the question of finance, as well as the selection of images which identify certain values, giving special importance to the inauguration ceremonies and closing ceremonies.Published
