Abstract

This paper seeks to answer the question of whether a de institutionalization of the periodization and temporalization of the three stages of life cycle (schooling, work and old stage) is being produced in industrialized countries exactly France, Sweden, and Great Britain, starting from the new institucional ways of leaving the labour market. The change from the situation in the middle 70's (when the conditions for having acass to other social benefits than retirement ones were very narrow) into today's situation (in which the cases of application of these programs have become more flexible) has made the cronologization of these periods, which then was rigid ana homogeneous, to become now a very flexible and heterogeneous one. The author states chat it is possible to talk about a de institutionalization of the course of these stages, although this de institutionalization does 't lead to a greater optionality for the individuals in order to choose their moment for finally leaving the labour market, because this leaving is, in most cases, imposed rather than chosen.
